Editor’s Note: Datanami Is Now BigDATAwire

Earlier this week, Datanami completed the transition to BigDATAwire. Loyal readers will notice that we began this journey nearly two years ago. And while the transition may have taken a little longer than expected, it’s satisfying to finally be here.

We have a new name, but the publication retains its core focus on big data topics, including data management, data science, advanced analytics, and AI. You can expect to read the same great coverage of cutting-edge technologies in this space and the people who put them into practice.

We chose the name BigDATAwire for a couple of reasons. First, it brings alignment with the Tabor Communications Inc. family of publications, including TCI’s flagship website, HPCwire, as well as AIwire, which recently rebranded from EnterpriseAI.

Secondly, the name reflects the fact that big data is still a thing. While the big data boom may have started a decade-and-a-half ago, many of the same challenges remain, and managing big data continues to be a big challenge.

To be sure, data management tech has improved significantly since the first Hadoop clusters went online. But the growing volumes and velocity of data, not to mention the changing use cases for data (hello, generative AI) are exposing weaknesses in organizations’ current data management strategies.

The goal with BigDATAwire (or BDW for short) is to continue spotlighting these data management challenges, as well as showing readers the business opportunities that open when effective data management is reached.

It is the end of the road for Datanami, which was one of the first publications dedicated to covering the emerging market for big data solutions back in 2011. I am honored to have been the managing editor of Datanami since 2013.

With the hard work of the publications’ staff and a bit of luck, hopefully BigDATAwire can have a similarly successful run.

– Alex Woodie, BigDATAwire Managing Editor
