Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, showcased a wide array of technological advancements at the India Mobile Congress 2024 (IMC2024), held from October 15-18 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event highlighted Jio’s commitment to driving India’s digital future with innovations in 5G, AI (Artificial Intelligence), IoT (Internet of Things), and beyond. Here’s a rundown of Jio’s groundbreaking announcements.

As you enter the Jio Booth, visitors are greeted by digital displays and banners highlighting key achievements, including Jio’s status as the world’s largest mobile data company, its 5G Stack, and the fact that Jio’s 6G innovations have led to the filing of over 3,000 patents in just 15 months—and growing…

5G intelligent Village Powered by AI

Enabling smart farming and empowering farmers through Jio’s 5G Intelligent Village. Jio presented a 5G intelligent village concept powered by AI. Farmers can now use their mobile phones to take pictures of crops, allowing AI to detect diseases and recommend solutions, improving crop health and yield. Jio facilitates the delivery of these solutions to homes or nearby retail stores, empowering farmers by enabling higher revenue and better employment opportunities.

Another agri solution which Jio showcased, according to the company, is its JioKrishi Agri IoT device. The IoT device with multiple sensors takes farming into the digital age, providing real-time data on crop health and enabling optimal irrigation and fertilisation. Connected to the AI-enabled JioKrishi app, farmers can receive recommendations for fertilisers or pesticides, including the quantities to use, and order farm supplies—ensuring end-to-end farm solutions.

“JioKrishi’s agri IoT device is revolutionising Indian agriculture. It empowers farmers with data-driven insights to improve the crop’s quality and yield,” Jio said. ” “JioKrishi provides an end-to-end solution for farmers, and helps improve crop yield.”

Jio Launched New 4G JioBharat phones

Sunil Dutt, President of Reliance Jio, unveiled the new JioBharat V3 and V4 models, priced at Rs 1,099. These new 4G feature phones bring the world of JioTV, JioCinema, JioPay, and JioChat to the masses, empowering every Indian with True connectivity at an affordable price, Jio said.

Jio said, “The success of JioBharat V2 in 2023 laid a strong foundation, making it clear that India was ready for affordable, high-quality digital experiences. It ensured that millions of 2G feature phone users could live a 4G digital life for the first time.”

“Building on that momentum, Reliance Jio has now introduced the JioBharat V3 and V4, the next generation of affordable 4G feature phones.”

Both models, V3 and V4, reportedly come packed with a suite of exclusive Jio services, acting as gateways to a whole ecosystem of digital experiences. JioTV offers access to over 455 live TV channels, JioCinema brings a wide array of movies, videos, and sports content, and JioChat allows users to stay connected with their loved ones.

JioBharat V3 and V4 Supports JioTV

Additionally, Jio said JioPay, with its UPI integration and built-in Sound Box, facilitates seamless digital payments. This feature is a significant leap in driving financial inclusion.

The phones come with a 1000 mAh battery, expandable storage of up to 128 GB, and support for 23 Indian languages. Jio said that while both phones are priced at Rs 1,099, JioBharat comes with a monthly recharge plan for just Rs 123, offering unlimited voice calls and 14 GB of data—providing savings of almost 40 percent over other players.

The two models will be available shortly in all physical mobile phone-selling outlets as well as on JioMart and Amazon, Jio said while making the launch announcement.

JioFrames

In addition, Jio showcased JioFrames, smart glasses powered by Jio Brain technology. Featuring visual search in 100 languages, Bluetooth connectivity, and a sleek design, JioFrames is expected to hit the market by April 2025.

Jio Trakr

Jio introduced Trakr, a high-tech surveillance system powered by Jio’s cloud and AI technology.

Trakr is a quadruped robot. According to Jio, Trakr is actually an example of Industry 5.0, showcasing human and robot collaboration. Trakr can access highly secure areas and provide video analytics of those locations.

It can recognise intruders and detect anomalies within the premises, such as pipeline or sprinkler disruptions. All such events are captured by the robot, enhancing security and monitoring within the facility.

OnePlus:

Ishita Grover, Marketing Director of OnePlus India, visited the Jio booth and shared her excitement about driving the digital revolution forward through a strong partnership with Jio.

“As always, it’s a great experience to be here at IMC at the Jio stall. This is a great testament to Jio’s overall vision of democratising technology, bringing digital access across India and actually around the world. We at OnePlus are proud to be partners with Jio and to see them leading digitalisation in India,” Ishita said.

Vivo Mobile

Terry Hong, Vice President, and Aswani Bhaskar Katneni, Chief Sales Officer at Vivo Mobile India, also visited the Jio booth at IMC 2024.

Aswani Bhaskar said, “It’s great to see how Jio has transformed the 5G space in India. Over the last two years, we have quickly moved from technology demonstrations to actual applications. This is very fast, and we are looking forward to the revolution that Vivo and Jio can bring to this space. We look forward to great cooperation.”

Terry Hong added, “We have a very strong partnership with Jio. Jio is our strategic partner, and we have a really good collaboration for the market.”

Other Visits to Jio Booth

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), visited the Jio booth and explored the cutting-edge innovations showcased there, according to Jio.

Jio said that Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister of Communications of India, visited the Jio booth, experienced JioFrames, which enables skill-building through AI, and explored the 5G Intelligent Village, which empowers rural India through digital solutions.

Health Tech and Virtual Sports

Jio Powered Spandan

Jio booth also showcased Jio network-powered Spandan, the world’s smallest ECG machine, capable of detecting heart attacks via smartphones. With 99.76 percent accuracy, Spandan allows real-time heart monitoring without an internet connection.

Jio says, “Spandan is a revolutionary device that tracks heart health and offers expert interpretation on the go.”

“Connect the device to your smartphone, and within 10 seconds, you will know whether the ECG is normal or abnormal. To begin, users need to place the electrodes (Red, Green, and Yellow) in the positions shown in the app and click ‘Start Test.’ The app records the ECG for 10 seconds and then displays whether it is normal or abnormal. It costs Rs 12,000 and requires no battery or internet. With real-time insights and reports, customers can also connect to experts. This device is powered by Jio’s network,” the Jio personnel explained. This device is for heart patients and normal customers.

V20 Cricket Immersive Virtual Gameplay

In entertainment, V20 Cricket, an immersive virtual gameplay app, brings the excitement of stadium cricket to users’ homes, offering a truly interactive sporting experience.

“No cricket pitch, no problem! Now play cricket anytime, anywhere with V20 Cricket, an immersive virtual gameplay from Jio,” the company said.

Dreamt of playing cricket inside a stadium? Jio V20 Virtual Cricket makes it possible now. The virtual V20 can be downloaded from the Jio Immerse app, and with special glasses, customers can play cricket at home, in the office, or anywhere in the world. Feel the stadium energy at home, Jio said.

AI Innovations and Experiences Steal the Show

JioBrain

Jio also showcased its JioBrain, a homegrown AI platform offering AI/ML services for various industries. JioBrain powers a host of applications, including JioAvatar (avatar creation), Jio Code Assist (coding automation), and Jio Energy Management. Its large-scale AI models serve telecom, energy, and beyond, marking Jio’s ambition to democratise AI for all.

Let’s now see what Jio has said about JioBrain in its own words.

According to Jio, JioBrain is an industry-agnostic platform that enables AI/ML as a service. It offers large-scale LLM capabilities, as well as advanced AI features for images, videos, text, documents, speech, and in-built AI algorithms, all “as a service.” Some key applications of JioBrain include Telecom, Jio Energy Management Platform, Code Assist, JioAvatar, and GenAI.

At the event, Jio said it has built an indigenous AI platform, developed by Indian engineers for all Indians. JioBrain is a backend AI platform that enables AI capabilities, which can be consumed by any upstream application.

Any industry-agnostic application can leverage JioBrain’s capabilities to inherit AI functionalities. Jio has also developed certain applications based on JioBrain. One of them is JioAvatar, where you can take a photograph and create avatars. Another is Jio Code Assist, which developers can use as a productivity tool for automating coding tasks.

“There can be an ‘n’ number of other applications. JioBrain is a transformative platform that can be used to create multiple such applications,” a Jio executive explained.

AI in Education

Jio showcased its Embibe Lens App, an AI-powered educational tool, that redefines learning by enabling students to point their camera at textbooks, which the app then augments concepts with 3D models, videos, and virtual lab experiments. This innovation promises to transform traditional education methods.

“Experience the future of learning with Embibe Lens, the cutting-edge AI-powered app. Unveiling a world of possibilities, Embibe Lens goes beyond the confines of traditional textbooks by harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence,” Jio said.

No matter which book you’re studying, simply point the camera at the page and take a picture. The app automatically detects all the academic concepts present on that page.

Select any concept you want to study, and the app will load a 3D element directly on the page. Users can also access relevant 3D videos that enhance concept clarity and visualisation. Along with these videos, the app offers virtual activities and lab experiments related to the concept, which can be opened and explored, Jio personnel explained.

Jio has showcased AI for Education, which includes AI for Adaptive Learning and AI for Immersive Learning.

AI Experiences at Jio Booth

JioGraphy – proudly honouring the roots of every Indian. Users can take a selfie and choose a background from a range of popular places in India.

Next, we have Jio Throne. This is a booth where Jio demonstrates how customers can take a photo while seated in a chair and transform it into a Forbes India Magazine cover. Jio calls this “Celebrating the Leaders of Today and Tomorrow.”

AI for Retail

In the AI for Retail section, Jio, along with its partners, showcased demos including the Jio Commerce platform, AI Headshots, Fify Chatbot, GlamAR, and Bharat Diffusion.

Jio claims that its AI-driven commerce platform streamlines retail operations such as order processing, supply chain, warehouse, and transportation management. Integrated with ONDC, it enhances the seller-buyer journey. Key AI tools include:

  • Fify Chatbot – An AI fashion influencer
  • Bharat Diffusion – Generates Indian-themed visuals
  • GlamAR – Virtual try-ons
  • AI Headshots – Professional photo generation

  • Fify Chatbot: Automate your customer support and generate an AI influencer for your brand with Fify and CoPilot Live.
  • Bharat Diffusion: Generate imagery for marketing and promotions with an Indian context using Bharat Diffusion.
  • GlamAR: Provide a virtual try-on experience to your customers with GlamAR by Pixel Binio.
  • AI Headshots: AI cataloguing and headshot generation with Pixel Binio. Simply upload mannequin or flat-lay images to PixelBin and get your AI catalogue ready to go live.

Bharat Diffusion:

Jio introduced its first AI tool designed to generate Indian images at the IMC 2024.

Announcing the tool, Jio on x (formerly Twitter) said: “Introducing Bharat Diffusion – the first AI tool designed to generate authentic Indian images like no other. Whether you’re a business leader or a creative visionary, Bharat Diffusion is your go-to source for India-specific visuals. The future of Indian imagery is here!”

“Jio introduced its 100 percent made-in-India AI image generation tool, Bharat Diffusion. Bharat Diffusion is a GenAI model that helps you generate images that are innately Indian with Indian details—something that other models, like Midjourney, can’t provide,” Jio explained at its Booth.

“It’s really nice that Jio is coming up with such tools that are Indian-specific and focused on our country. No other tools can do this, I think so and Jio being the first in the industry will definitely give them a first-mover advantage,” the narrator of the video explained.

JioCloud Arena Showcase

Jio says it provides the foremost hyperscale cloud in India for infrastructure, platform, and software application services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to make AI and compute accessible to everyone, everywhere.

“Jio helps simplify business operations with ISV-built enterprise productivity apps, including PocketHRMS (HR/People Management), Onfinity (formerly Vienna Advantage – Finance/ERP, Accounting), Vtiger (CRM/Sales Automation), Haptic (Conversational Marketing, Customer Service), VasyERP (Retail ERP, Finance, Procurement), and Accops (Desktop Management).”

At the booth, in collaboration with partners, Jio showcased the power of AI-driven automation for smarter customer management.

Vtiger CRM, in collaboration with Reliance Jio, is driving seamless customer engagement and helping businesses grow with AI-driven solutions that harness the power of Jio’s network, the companies said.
