JetBrains IDEs now include AI tools by subscription

JetBrains AI tools, including the improved AI Assistant tool and coding agent dubbed Junie, are now available with a single subscription and with a free tier for JetBrains IDEs.

Including AI tools under a single subscription makes it easier to access these products and ensures a consistent experience across IDEs, said JetBrains CEO Kyrill Skrygan in an April 16 blog post. The AI Free tier will be available with all IDE licenses. This tier gives developers unlimited code completion and access to local AI models. Credit-based use of cloud-based AI assistance and the Junie coding agent is also available. Meanwhile, the AI Pro and AI Ultimate tiers provide increased usage quotes for demanding workflows, according to JetBrains. The All Products Pack and dotUltimate subscriptions now come with AI Pro included.

Regardless of the tier chosen, users keep their data. JetBrains AI features are built with a focus on privacy, security, and transparency, Skrygan said. Junie, unveiled in January, is now publicly available, allowing developers to redefine code by providing a collaborator within the IDE. The latest release of Junie was improved to perform more complex tasks and offer finer control for a human-in-the-loop approach, said Skrygan. The tool now serves as a full-fledged pair programmer that can answer questions, propose a plan to the user, and follow development guidelines, he said. Junie already is compatible with JetBrains IDEs including IntelliJ Idea Ultimate, PyCharm, WebStorm, and GoLand. The IDE maker plans to add support for PhpStorm, RustRover, and RubyMine.
